oscar night is upon us and the only thing that i can think of is why the hell hasn’t al gore announced he’s running for president yet?

i thought it was comical between him and leonardo dicaprio, but seriously, dude, the democratic field is really weak this year. as much as i like barak obama, i don’t like his little verbal warfare between hillary clinton. she’s a clinton, they go below the belt… literally and figuratively. (sidenote: i’d vote for bill again if he were able to run again.)

another sidenote: HOLY SHIT! SELENE DION! DEATH AND THE END OF THE WORLD IS UPON US!

anyway, what was i talking about?

was i surprised by any of the winners? naaah, i wanted to see alan arkin win. jennifer hudson was a good win, though i haven’t seen her movie. from what i hear she was really good.

i was shocked, SHOCKED, i say, that pan’s labyrinth didn’t win for best foreign language film. they’ve fuckin’ won everything else. in the category that counts, the krauts sweep in and steal it way.

back to the original point, the upcoming presidential race, the republicans do not have a viable candidate. its a party in flux. come on, they tried to get a constitutional amendment passed that would allow foreign born citizens (read as: arnold schrawzenegger) to run for president. this could turn into a 2000 race all over again where a third-party candidate comes in a steals votes away from them. the democratic party is on the edge. they don’t know which way is up. between joe biden making scathing remarks about obama to obama and clinton fighting it out.

anyway, back to the oscars, who the hell knew that clint eastwood knew italian? i know he starred in those marconi westerns, but i didn’t know he could speak the italian.

what the hell? GM didn’t have the balls to keep the part of the robot jumping off the bridge? that’s it, i’m not buying a GM car. bring on the smart car.

here are my predictions for the remaining major awards:

best actor: forrest whitaker: the last king of scotland: i didn’t see this movie, but whitaker is a way underrated actor, and, from what i hear, he was amazing in this flick. who will win: ryan gosling.

best actress: helen mirren: the queen: it takes huge balls to play a person who is still alive in a situation that still resonates in the minds of people that actually worry about that kind of shit. who will win: meryl streep, because she always fucking wins.

best director: clint eastwood: letters to iwo jima: we’ve all heard the story of the american’s charge of of iwo jima, but never had heard the story from the other side. i commend eastwood for telling this story. who will win: clint eastwood.

best picture: the departed: just to stick it to martin scorcese. who will win: letters to iwo jima.
