i’m in the middle of a marathon session of coding. my mind is starting wander. i’ve been listening to the audiobook version of my favorite novel of all time, “on the road.”
in a fit of timekilling, i look up “on the road” in wikipedia and find that hollywood is going to attempt to make a movie out of it.
walter salles is directing. he directed “the motorcycle diaries” which i’ve heard is really excellent, but i haven’t seen it yet.
so before i make any judgements about the direction of the movie, i’ll see that flick.
so, while the directed has been chosen, who should play the characters?
here’s my list:
thomas jane - dean paradise
a bit of type-casting. he played neil cassidy in the last time i committed suicide. a close second would be ryan reynolds because i think he could copy some of the manicness of paradise. yeah, that’s a stretch. shoot me later.
paul rudd - sal paradise
once again, another stretch pick. paradise needs to be a passive observer but still needs to know how to push paradise. paradise is the main character, but still sort of a sidekick. rudd has played a variety of characters of this type. i think he could pull it off.
jeff bridges - old bull lee
i was going to have sam elliot in this slot, but jeff bridges could really shine in the part. he’s not too old, but i think this is written perfectly for him. i could also see dennis quaid playing this role.
johnny depp - carlo marx
after seeing depp take on the role of the late, great hunter s. thompson, i couldn’t see anybody else tackling this part. he was born to play this the incarnation of allen ginsburg.
catalina sandino moreno - terry
if you haven’t seen maria full of grace, then its obvious that you hate movies. catalina would shine in this part. it is perfectly written for her. i know, i know, terry’s mexican and catalina’s columbian, but do you think hollywood cares? you must not have watch memoirs of a geisha where all the main japanese characters were played by chinese actresses.
that’s all for now. i’m sure i’ll be adding to this.
