that’s right. laundry day.

laundry day is the perfect day to get caught up on movies you haven’t watched in a while, or in my case, test the new dvd player’s divx abilities. my buddy gave me a dvd full of divx’ with the firefly series on it. i watched half of the episodes on my computer, but its not the same as watching it on the 55″ hdtv.

can somebody explain to me why fox cancelled this series? it was great. probably the best sci-fi series ever. yeah, trekkies, i went there.

after watching five hours of firefly and picking up a little chinese, i decided that i would keep these movie watching expo going.

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy: a quirky, dry british comedy based on the novel of the same name. if you haven’t seen this yet, you really should because it is extremely funny and sometimes thought provoking. it also pokes fun at different sci-fi movies.

Scrooged: my favorite christmas movie of all time. sure, its just a retelling of charles dickens’ a christmas carol, but bill murray’s speech at the end of the movie comes off as being genuine and didn’t seem like it was in the script. tbs should alternate this movie with a christmas story on christmas day.

Confessions of a Dangerous Mind: another movie starring sam rockwell (he played in hitchhiker’s). this movie is based on the unauthorized autobiography of chuck barris, the man who came up with the dating game, the newlywed game, and the gong show. in his book, barris basically explains how, during his time with the shows, he was also a contract hitman for the cia. whether you believe it or not, it is still a very interesting story and sort of explains barris’ antics on the gong show.

Kill Bill Vol 1 & 2: in my opinion, the best movies to come in the 21st century. i consider this one movie. it is quentin tarantino at his best. there’s a certain poetry to the violence and dialogue. his characters have a certain rhythm and vernacular to their speech that comes off as very engaging. the story is amazing. how could you not be drawn in by the revenge and history of the bride? all the actors are absolutely amazing. michael madsen stands out the most. he has some of the best lines and, out of all the bad guys, you almost feel sorry for him more. Darryl Hannah is probably the hottest she has ever been in her long movie career. this series is a must-own for any dvd collector. i can only hope that tarantino puts out a collector’s edition that combines the two movies.

well, after that marathon, my laundry is mostly done. yeah, i’ve let it pile up over the last couple of weeks, and since i’m flying out to the emerald city on wednesday, i thought today would be the best day to get it done.
