WEB PORTFOLIO

2006 Arizona Diamondbacks: Who's on First?
This was an Ajax developed application that let azcentral's sports editors make daily updates through an XML file that was automatically formatted utilizing JavaScript. The 2006 stats for each player is also another JavaScript that writes a PHP script that pull the stat information from a database that is updated everyday.
azcentral.com photos page
I developed the top Flash piece so that it could be updated everyday by various editors. Updates are done through an XML file. The text, photo, and links are placed in dynamically so that the only thing the editor really needs to do graphic-wise is upload a new the corresponding photo. I also coded the page utilizing standards-based design and minimal tables.
azcentral.com news and business pages
I recoded these pages to get rid of the embedded tables within a table within a table, etc. I utilized a mix of div tags and unordered to accomplish effects that would normally have taken five tables to perform. The load time of the pages also sped up.
azcentral.com 2006 suns playoffs one-on-one matchups
Before the Phoenix Suns' run in the 2006 NBA Playoffs, I was requested to develop a mini-site that would provide one-on-one player/position comparisons. One major requirement was that it had to be easily manageable. Last year I developed a similar mini-site all in Flash, but to prepare for the next round of playoffs, we either had to bank on a sweep by the other two teams playing or create two sites and make whichever matchup live. This year, I developed an application in Ajax that required only similar files to be copied, moved into a new directory, and XML file updated. Sports editors found this much easier to update in case of player injuries or misspellings in descriptions.
Spotlight: Autism Arizona
In the 2006 fall semester, I co-taught JMC 425: Online Media at Arizona State University with a co-worker. The final project for the class looked at autism in Arizona. I taught the students the basics of HTML coding and touched on CSS a little bit. For the project, I designed and coded the home and page story templates. The students fleshed out story templates and sub-index listings.
